What We Do

Crown Beef does contract feeding for outside investors that would want to earn a good return on investment and don’t have the know-how or infrastructure to do so themselves.

Our Mission

Crown Beef operates a feedlot outside Bronkhorstspruit (± 54 km from Pretoria) and is situated on a farm of 866 ha. Feedlot operations are categorized as precision farming in the Agro-processing sector of agricultural activities.

Background

History

The first feedlots operate in SA since early 1960. Feedlot operations are described as cattle being fed on primary grains under extensive conditions. Cattle are housed in kraals to restrict movement.

Experience

The management team of Crown Beef has more than 21 years of experience in all aspects of cattle farming.

Security

Security guards and solar lighting at night help to ensure the safety and security of the animals. Kraals are always locked and keys controlled by management to ensure that only qualified personnel have access to the kraals. These measures are part of the Bio-security protocols to help ensure animal health.

Health

Animal health is of the utmost importance in a feedlot. As cattle arrive at the feedlot, they are processed within 24 hours of arrival. This includes all inoculations, marking, weighing, and sorting of cattle in gender and weight groups to ensure stress is reduced to the minimum. These cattle are checked twice daily to pick up possible sick animals as early as possible and do the right treatment. This enables animals to grow to their best possible performance.

Little Bit More

Risk

Calves bought into the feedlot are the biggest expense, and only carefully selected calves can grow best in the feedlot. “The wrong selected calve can never be fed to reach the required goals”

Food

Good quality base grains are bought in, stored in the house, and mixed on-site in our feed facility to the required formulations for the various requirements in the feedlot.

Water

Water supply for the feedlot is from boreholes and stored in reservoirs to ensure a constant supply. Cattle need good quality cool clean water every day and is as important as well-balanced nutritious feed.
